Guide to Bude – Food & Drink

North Coast Wine Warehouse & Lounge – 1 Lansdown Road EX23 8BH

First up in our guide to Bude is a small but beautifully decorated wine bar and shop with indoor and outdoor seating where you can enjoy wine, beer, cocktails, coffee, and more.

Currently open from 11am – 6pm during the week and later at weekends (usually until 9:30pm). Reservations can be made at www.ncwine.co.uk. Children are allowed until 6pm and it’s dog friendly.

Life’s A Beach – 16 Summerleaze Crescent EX23 8HN

Cafe/bar with a terrace overlooking Summerleaze beach.  A beautiful spot to enjoy anything from a small snack, coffee & cake to fresh fish and seafood & burgers,

Open Mon – Sat 10am – 9pm, food served to 8pm, earlier close on Sunday.

House of Chaplin – 2 Morwenna Road EX23 8BU

Only open just over a year, House of Chaplin is a relatively small place with a mixture of tables, sofas and high chairs. It has a coffee shop vibe, but also serves some decent beer and is open for breakfast, lunch and sometimes in the evenings.

Olive Tree – The Wharf EX23 8LG

Just a short stroll down the canal and over the bridge, the Olive Tree is a lovely spot for brunch/lunch and caters well for all dietary needs.  

Open daily 10am – 5pm, Thurs – Sat kitchen closes at 4pm and reopens 5-7pm

Electric Bakery – Unit 2, The Depot, Kings Hill, Bude EX23 8PQ

A worthy addition in our guide to Bude and…..Ok…so it’s not in town centre (but only 5-10 mins walk)..it’s on an semi industrial estate, and it’s not sit-in (there are seats outside}….but a visit to the electric bakery is a must. Proper freshly baked bread, pastries, coffee, craft beer and daily lunch take away specials. Open 9-2pm (Close Mon and Tue).

The Crust –  Unit 3, The Crust Pizza Co, The Depot, Bude EX23 8PQ

A new addition in our guide to Bude is ‘The Crust’. Opened a few months, the Crust is fantastic and is our go to place for Pizza. Next door to the Electric Bakery, they do both eat in and takeaway. https://thecrustpizza.co.uk/

Rosie’s Kitchen – Crooklets Beach EX23 8NE

If you are here with children especially, Rosie’s is a great place to spend an hour or two enjoying the sea view with a coffee, beer or milkshake while the little ones play in the adjacent fenced play area.  As well as sweet treats and drinks there is a full menu with an American diner feel, and woodfired pizzas available.

The Preston Gate Inn – Poughill EX23-9ET

A proper pub in the village of Poughill, just over a mile from Bude. Although it’s in a village, the road from Bude has pavement all the way so it’s an easy walk – of about 25 mins from Bude town centre. Be warned it’s a climb for the last 0.25 mile on the road but you get rewarded with a drink at the other end!

With events on pretty much every night of the week, such as live music Tuesdays and Fridays, quiz night Wednesdays, it’s always a good time. It’s family friendly too.

The Barrel Bude – 36 Lansdown Road EX23 8BN

The Barrel is a micropub, with limited opening hours serving Cornish only beers & spirits straight from the barrel. Open Thurs-Saturday 4-9pm and Sunday 1-4pm, the Barrel has a real community feel. Each week the landlord Ian travels to different breweries and distilleries in Cornwall, selecting drinks which are then served over the weekend. There is always music on the Sunday and often Fridays as well. Be warned, to encourage conversation, no phones are allowed to be used! Over 18’s only.

Coast Beach Bar – Hartland Terrace, Bude – (Closed until summer)

If you’re looking for a great place to relax and enjoy the view in Bude, look no further than Coast Beach Bar in Bude. This outdoor bar overlooks Summerleaze with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s until 10pm, so it’s a great place to go for an afternoon or early evening drink.

The atmosphere at Coast Beach Bar is relaxed and friendly with a laid-back vibe. There is also music on Sundays at 4pm. This is a great opportunity to enjoy some live music and soak up the atmosphere.

Overall, Coast Beach Bar is a great place to relax and enjoy the view in Bude. It’s a perfect spot to catch up with friends, enjoy a drink, and listen to some live music.

The Falcon Hotel – Breakwater Rd, Bude EX23 8SD

Lastly in our guide to Bude is the The Falcon, a nice hotel with public bar and restaurant, literally 2-3 minutes walk from the apartment. The real gem of this place however is the ‘secret garden’ that opens in summer. Set high up, this outside garden is a hidden gem in summer. Complete with an outside bar, it’s a great place to relax in the sun.

Guide to Bude – Places to Visit

Monster Slip and Slide

First up in places to visit in out guide to Bude is The Monster Slip and Slide, a fantastic summer activity for families or groups of friends. This massive 360ft slide is the perfect way to cool off on a hot day and have some epic fun.

The slide is located just 5 minutes drive from Canalside, Bude making it easy to get to. It’s open 7 days a week throughout the summer holidays, from 10am to 5pm (last session at 4pm).

Tickets are £13.50 for adults and £10.50 for children, but under 5s are free. You can book tickets online in advance or pay on the day. You can also buy drinks and snacks from the on-site kiosk. The slide is suitable for ages 3 and up.

Once you’re ready to slide, you’ll take your place at the top of the hill. The slide is divided into four lanes, so you can race your friends or family to the bottom. The slide is wet and slippery, so you’re guaranteed to get soaked!

The Monster Slip and Slide is a great way to cool off on a hot day and have some fun with friends and family. It’s a popular attraction, so it’s a good idea to book your tickets in advance – click here to book:

Best Things to do in Bude 15

Bude Sea Pool

Bude Sea Pool is a semi-natural tidal pool on Summerleaze beach, a few minutes walk from 2 Canalside, Bude. It is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and wild swimming. The pool is surrounded by cliffs and dunes, and offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Bude Sea Pool is open all year round, but it is busiest during the summer months. There is no charge to use the pool, and no need to book in advance, though donations are welcome as it’s entirely funded by charity. See their website here.

The pool is suitable for all levels of swimmers, from beginners to experienced swimmers. There is a shallow end for children and less confident swimmers, and a deeper end for more experienced swimmers. The pool is approx 90m long.

There are changing rooms and and also a first aid post on site.

Bude Sea Pool is a great place to cool off on a hot day, or to enjoy a refreshing swim. It is also a great place to go wild swimming, as the water is clean and refreshing being naturally replaced at high tide twice a day.

Here are some additional tips for your visit to Bude Sea Pool:

  • Check the tide times before you go, avoiding high tide.
  • Wear appropriate clothing, such as swimwear, and bring a towel.
  • Bring sunscreen
  • If you have young children, be sure to supervise them closely in the pool.
